About Us
Join some of the most innovative and driven students in biomedical engineering
Outreach + Research + Events
The Biomedical Engineering Society at Virginia Tech (BMES @ VT) is a unique way for students to become involved in outreach projects, research collaborations, and social events with other biomedical engineering students, faculty, staff, and industry.
"As a senior graduate student, I've seen how the BME department has welcomed new students into our family each year, providing opportunities to meet and interact with one another while building a strong community on both academic and personal levels. I have enjoyed participating in departmental activities and outreach efforts, where we continue to support one another, engage with the Virginia Tech community, and inspire the younger generation. I have also truly appreciated the department's willingness to help students establish connections with collaborators and future employers through its support of events such as the BMES Annual Meeting and Virginia Tech-Wake Forest Student Symposium." - Edward Shangin (Current VT BMES Chapter Treasurer)
Mission
Our mission is to encourage the development, dissemination, integration, and utilization of knowledge in biomedical engineering, as well as to enhance interaction within the scientific community.
Our chapters offer unique ways for students to become involved in outreach projects, research collaborations, and social events with other biomedical engineering students, faculty, staff, and industry. All SBES members are invited to join our events, including many service and outreach projects within the local community and annually attending the BMES National Meeting.

About VT-WFU School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences
The Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering & Sciences (VT-WFU SBES) is a joint graduate program that was formed in 2003 to bring together three prestigious academic institutions: the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Each university contributes diverse educational and research opportunities to students, providing a unique graduate experience. Every year, students from both campuses are connected via joint events planned by the BMES Student Chapters and the Annual SBES Symposium.
